Energy Management
Connecting to Smart Control Networks and Energy-Aware Devices
Smart device networks that save energy transparently — without negative affecting our daily lives — are the best way to manage and control energy use. These networks are grid-aware, able to intelligently respond to conditions on the grid such as peak-energy demand, and able to implement operation strategies quickly and easily. Smart device networks are implemented all over the world as energy and control systems for utilities, buildings, homes, street lighting systems, and more.
Echelon supplies two product lines that enable energy management and optimization:
- The NES System for smart grid metering infrastructures.
- The LonWorks control networking platform for smart buildings, energy-aware products, and many other control, monitoring, and energy applications.
The i.LON SmartServer: A Smart Energy Manager
Bridging the gap between smart control networks and the grid is the i.LON SmartServer. On one side, it's an integral part of a control system, supplying a local UI; performing scheduling, alarming, and trending functions; or even serving as a system controller. On the other side, it's a connector to any IP network or system of information, able to present data and status from devices on the control network as standard XML-based objects, and able to accept data from IP-aware applications and present it to the control network or smart device as ISO/IEC14908 (LonWorks data), Modbus, M-Bus, or custom data.
A single SmartServer can make a building or store part of a demand response program — grid-aware and more efficient.
